Janet Singer
After gaining a National Diploma in Design in Sculpture & Letter cutting, Janet taught Art in Comprehensive schools for 12 Years. Later on when her children were growing up she took commissions for portrait heads, most of which were children. Observational drawing and 'life' studies were also a large part of her work using charcoal, pastel, soft pencil & sometimes black ink. Latterly because of growing interest in the vibrant colours of pastels, she now does two dimensional work only; main interest being the Human Figure, the myriad choice of natural things around us from Creation; Landscape & Still Life. She always uses pastel on the work, whether worked on in situ, as a pure media or using textured surfaces, or collaged painted surfaces adding overall interest. Janet is finding this method of working an outlet for a more abstract approach - but always observed. Other societies & associations: Leicestershire Pastel Society |
