Mixed Media Artist
Sue Barry is a Leicestershire based mixed media artist, creating semi abstract paintings in mixed media, alongside original hand crafted scarves using merino wool/silk chiffon and cottons, inspired by colours, textures and line in the landscape. Collage, acrylic and oil painting techniques are developed in Sue’s paintings using limited colour palettes and painting with rags to create atmosphere. Traditional and contemporary felt making techniques, and hand carding dyed wool tops, are used to create subtle tones, which evolve into original textiles. Working in this variety of mixed media nurtures Sue’s creativity, having found her desire to paint alongside her experience of textiles.
Sue has a background in textiles and studied Fashion at Loughborough College of Art and Felt Making at South Nottingham College. She was a designer for Chilprufe and worked as a Community Artist with Mantle Arts and Leicestershire County Council in Adult/Family Learning.
A collection of Sue’s paintings and hand-crafted scarves, are currently on show in the Dotty Gallery and The Gallery in Sutton Bonington.
