Sketchbook exchange 2026

Picture
Previous year's exchanges:
2019
2018

This is a group project, where everyone contributes a page to everybody else’s sketchbook – so at the end of the year, your book will contain a collection of sketches on the theme you’ve chosen, created by the other members of the group.

  • Let us know if you would like to take part and choose a topic for your sketchbook – preferably pick something fairly open so that other people can interpret it in their own way. (The deadline for signing up will be the end of December so we can start in the New Year).  Please email [email protected] or speak to Helen Gleave or Jo Walters.

  • Each month, you will pass on the book you’ve been working on to the next person in the chain, and you’ll receive a new one with a different theme.

  • The concertina 'book' is made up as it travels…create your work on a 21cm square piece of paper (this is A4, trimmed to square) and attach it to the end of the concertina with a paper hinge stuck to the back of the work.

  • The image you create should relate to the theme of the book you’re working on, but it can be your own interpretation and whatever medium you like.  Please sign it and date it on the back, and if you like, add a little explanation about it too.

  • Once we know who is going to take part, we will put together a group list of NAME, EMAIL, ADDRESS AND TOPIC - please confirm that you are happy for your contact details to be shared with your group.  This will include a schedule so that you know what you will be working on each month.

  • Participants need to guarantee that they will hand over the book they have worked in at the end of each month, eg at the monthly meeting, in order that they don't hold the exchange up.

If you’re not coming to the meeting, please try to make other arrangements – either post it to the next person, or arrange to meet them and hand over, so that they can continue it.
If you want to work on the sketches ahead of schedule then that’s fine, just add your work in when you get the book.  If you have any problems please contact Helen Gleave and Jo Walters via the enquiries email.

  • We did this previously in 2018 and 2019 – if you’d like to see the sketches they are on the website: https://www.leicestersketchclub.co.uk/Sketchbook-exchange-2019.html

  • At the end of the year, we will share the work - for example on the website.
