Sun 11th May
The Newarke and the Castle Conservation Area - Castle View, Leicester, LE1 5WH.

Historic area of Leicester - including Newarke Houses museum and gardens, St Mary de Castro church, and the Magazine Gateway.

Meet at 10.30am in front of Leicester Castle Great Hall. We will start with a short tour of the location by Steven Peachey, Museum Curator at De Montfort University.

This lovely historical area of Leicester offers opportunities for sketching indoors and outside the Castle Great Hall,  the Trinity Hospital Chapel and herb garden, views from the Castle Motte,  St Mary de Castro churchyard, and the Newarke Houses Museum and garden.  The area is a unique tranquil spot with interesting buildings, cobbled streets with a ruinous medieval gatehouse called Turret Gateway. Bring a packed lunch – or visit The Castle Pub or Hand & Bowl Deli for refreshments.

Street parking available on The Newarke (off Western Boulevard) - see map: The Newarke, Leicester, LE2 7DR and on Castle View, Leicester, LE1 5WH and Castle Yard, Leicester, LE1 5WH.
