Sun 26th July - Welford Road Cemetery
Welford Road Leicester, LE2 6BF Meet at 11am at the Visitor Centre Victorian cemetery, opened in 1849 and still in use today. It is more than 12 hectares in size with around 10,000 headstones and 35,000 graves, and is a Grade II listed site. The cemetery’s visitor centre can be found near the main entrance in Welford Road. The centre is staffed by the Friends of Welford Road Cemetery and has information, leaflets and a public toilet suitable for disabled visitors. The centre is normally open from 10am till 1pm on a Sunday but should stay open till 2pm for us. Please note that Welford Road Cemetery is a designated Local Wildlife Site. The cemetery is designated for its grassland habitat, and as a consequence in July the grass in some areas of the cemetery may be quite long due to conservation grassland management practices with limited mowing to encourage the growth of the unique grassland flora. Please be aware of potential trip hazards, and stay on the pathways and areas of shorter grass. https://www.fowrcl.org.uk/ |
