Lis Stock Sue Clegg - My practice responds to connection and memory of places, people, objects and story. Drawing informs a large part of my work, the process sketching bringing both inspiration and a sense of connection to place. Teresa Budworth - My large-scale charcoal drawings explore the alienation and awe inspired by brutalist architecture. They confront the loss of collective history as these monumental structures crumble and examine the perceived danger and gendered boundaries posed by deserted urban spaces. |

Wednesday March 5th, 7pm - Leicester High School for Girls,
454 London Rd, Leicester LE2 2PP Andrew Wynne Artist talk 'An artist's journey' Andrew says "I'll be showing slides and talking about my inspirations and aspirations for my work. Through the years from early tentative representational to bold abstract works, with anecdotes about work in education, travel and people, I'm aiming for an honest and open dialogue from the heart." About Andrew Wynne: Works are created for exhibition and commission. I like to create by freely experimenting, whatever the medium, mostly batik and other variations of resist, printed and discharge dyed textiles. I also design and create works in mosaic, Selected exhibitions include shortlisted entries in ‘Art In Nature’ in Wallsworth Hall, Gloucestershire and commissioned works for the National Trust, Amersham Museum and English Nature. Works are in private collection in the UK and abroad in countries including the USA, Taiwan, Philippines, Poland, Germany and Saudi Arabia. Inspiration comes from a variety of sources and whilst some works are conventional depictions of the natural world, others are arrived at using a more intuitive and spontaneous approach, responding to memories, dreams, lyrics, and conversations. An active member of the Knighton Lane Artists Group in Leicester and the international Batik Guild. My practice includes teaching and facilitating. I have experience of working with all ages and abilities, ranging from primary to sixth form, adult education, centres for people with learning difficulties, university and community settings and I offer one to one tuition. |

Mike is an artist working to commissions mainly for designers, architects and corporations. For the most part his work has been site specific. His artworks are driven by a client’s brief with his main interest being modern British landscapes/cityscapes. The work is abstract or figurative and he does not restrict his use of materials and methods in the image making process. His work seeks to convey the energy and power witnessed within an ever-changing environment. Mike will talk about his working life as a commercial artist and designer and his experience of changing tracks and chucking away the rule book, focusing on what inspires - and. above all having fun. He will discuss open submissions and his role as a committee member of The Drawing Society aka The Society of Graphic Fine Art. This is an opportunity to talk with Mike about his work and he will bring examples along to discuss. www.urbanwall.com Mike Skinner (@art.urbanwall) • Instagram photos and videos |
Wednesday June 4th, 7pm - Leicester High School for Girls,
454 London Rd, Leicester LE2 2PP Laura Cramer Artist talk 'Simplifying the Landscape' Artist Laura Cramer: Laura Cramer lives and works in Bristol as a contemporary landscape painter. Born in Wexford, Ireland, Laura’s work is influenced by her childhood spent exploring beaches and rock pools and constantly drawing in the sand. While she is instinctively drawn to the abstract, her recent work hovers between reality and abstraction grounded in the landscape, with a quest for simplicity. The work is underpinned by a strong sense of design and colour allowing her to experiment freely with gestural brushwork. Laura also teaches, focusing on a few simple foundational elements that allow the artist to develop a strong sense of self and style, and the key for her is to keep it simple. I’ve had so many people say they feel guilty spending money on art materials when they barely use them. Burdened by a negative mindset that there is a ‘right way’ and a ‘wrong’ way. Laura explains how there is no ‘right or wrong’, but that with a few tricks up your sleeve, you too can loosen up to become the confident sketcher/painter you have always wanted to be. Over the years Laura has worked with large public art projects in Bristol, and with a design agency in Hong Kong to produce a series of paintings for the Hong Kong Jockey Club. She has exhibited at the Royal West of England Academy, the Bath Society of Artists and the Society of Women Artists at the Mall Gallery in London. She has also been a regular exhibitor at London Art Fairs & exhibits her work with several galleries around the UK. www.cramerpaintings.com Instagram: @cramerpaintings |
