Also used by Singer Sargent and William Russell Flint amongst others. The workshop will run from 1.30 pm - 4.30 pm at Knighton Parish Centre, Church Lane, Leicester LE2 3WG. Art room at Leicester High School for Girls 454 London Rd, Leicester LE2 2PP Andrew Wynne - 'Batik - Innovative approaches' 8 places £60 per session The aim of the workshop will be to teach learners the skills and choices in the process of creating batik. A traditional textile art with a place in contemporary art as a versatile and expressive medium. Learners will be challenged with a series of fun and structured exercises which will encourage spontaneity and individual responses, whilst working with resist, discharge dyeing and combined media. Several sample pieces will be created on paper, silk and cotton, as well as a final piece (approx 45cm square.) All tools, materials and resources are provided, but learners should wear old or protective clothing when working with dyes, bleach etc. About Andrew Wynne: Works are created for exhibition and commission. I like to create by freely experimenting, whatever the medium, mostly batik and other variations of resist, printed and discharge dyed textiles. I also design and create works in mosaic, Selected exhibitions include shortlisted entries in ‘Art In Nature’ in Wallsworth Hall, Gloucestershire and commissioned works for the National Trust, Amersham Museum and English Nature. Works are in private collection in the UK and abroad in countries including the USA, Taiwan, Philippines, Poland, Germany and Saudi Arabia. Inspiration comes from a variety of sources and whilst some works are conventional depictions of the natural world, others are arrived at using a more intuitive and spontaneous approach, responding to memories, dreams, lyrics, and conversations. An active member of the Knighton Lane Artists Group in Leicester and the international Batik Guild. My practice includes teaching and facilitating. I have experience of working with all ages and abilities, ranging from primary to sixth form, adult education, centres for people with learning difficulties, university and community settings and I offer one to one tuition. |

All too often we fall into our own habits and safe methods of working. We reach for the same starting points and materials we are familiar with. This will be on opportunity to try out some new elements and hopefully liven up your working methods. Also included in the workshop is a look at drawing techniques. The same lively and alternative approaches will be applied to your drawing practices to create some less obvious alternatives. Aims:
Materials and equipment requirements: Firstly, please don’t rush out and buy expensive materials. Please try and use what you have, found materials and recycling where possible.
