Mumtaz Seedat
Mumtaz was born and raised in Leicester. Just over a decade ago she was diagnosed with a brain tumour and after surgery lost her sense of smell and taste. Her need for an outlet to express her sense of loss inspired her to take up her childhood passion and love for art. Over time her paintings have evolved into being more abstract. "While we may all eat the same food, we each have different experiences and perceptions". As such she draws inspiration from the surreal interaction light has with its surrounding landscapes. She enjoys working with acrylics. She sometimes works from a photograph or a sketch but works better without any in-depth planning. Through using pallet knives, brushes and her fingers she is able to convey her emotion onto the canvas. Mumtaz is the current vice president of Crown Hills Art Society and has exhibited her work in the city museum and art galleries. She has been awarded 'Best Picture' voted by the public on two occasions.
