Wednesday March 6th, 7pm - Leicester High School for Girls,
454 London Rd, Leicester LE2 2PP Kevin Holdaway Artist talk Artist and master printmaker Kevin Holdaway is a member of the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers, internationally exhibited, and a Printmaking Today Award winner. While prolific in his own practice, he teaches a wide range of traditional printmaking techniques at De Montfort University in his role as a technical instructor. Though mainly working with imagery of a topological and personal nature, his work encompasses all traditional techniques in printmaking, and on a wide variety of subject matter. An enthusiasm for the urban environment, cityscapes, and architecture, creates a clear foundation for much of his work. After more than thirty four years as a relief printmaker he continues to develop through a personal focus that is resolute and promises to provide us with new insights into the heritage that is our city streets, for many more years to come. “I invite the viewer into my work to explore, to take a journey through the many visual layers involved and to discover something of the moment I experienced, or, to evoke memories of their own”. https://www.instagram.com/kevinholdaway/ https://www.leicestersocietyofartists.co.uk/lsa-artists/Kevin-Holdaway.php https://kevintraditionalprintmaker.wordpress.com/ |

Wednesday June 5th, 7pm - Wigston Academy
Summer social - music and sketching evening - bring your sketchbooks! With guitar music from Neil and Guy. Neil and Guy are two musicians from Loughborough playing guitar and mandolin. When recently challenged to develop a set based on well known rail road songs they got cracking. You can expect an evening that moves between easylistening, blues, folk, with a bit of Nirvana and Irish folk thrown in. Many of the songs are based on the Shine a Light album which was a collaboration between Billy Bragg and Joe Henry. You'll start the night sketching, but your foot will be tapping and you'll be singing by the end of the night. Please note new venue for this meeting! Site A hall, Wigston Academy, Station Road, Wigston LE18 2DT Site map here Please note: There are two entrances to the site and either can be used. The main car park is only about 50m from the hall entrance, and there is parking very close to the hall entrance for those who need easier access. Access to the Site A Hall is not through the main entrance to the academy. There is a separate entrance to the building which is to the left as you are looking at the main building from the car park. Wednesday July 3rd, 7pm - LCB depot, 31 Rutland Street, Leicester LE1 1RE Olivier Leger Artist talk The Atlas Project Olivier will be exhibiting at the LCB depot in July, and so the talk will take place there to let us see the artwork - see his website for more details.... https://www.olivierleger.co.uk/atlasproject " A turtle bears an ocean world on her back, providing a haven for the marine life of our world. At 2.1 x 1.8 metres, Atlas is the largest, most ambitious painting I have tackled to date. She carries a vibrant coral reef, teeming with boundless biodiversity, home to an abundance of ocean animals from majestic whale sharks to tiny nudibranch. But all is not well. Atlas will bear evidence of humanity's impact, from coral bleaching to plastic pollution. Atlas is both a celebration of the wonders of life in our oceans and an exploration of the issues endangering them. Jackie Hibbert Artist talk - Botanical Sketching in the Field Jackie Hibbert is a botanical artist - this will be an illustrated talk about her experiences in relation to botanical drawing, with some examples of our work, and sketch books for members to look at during the break. "I’ve always been an amateur painter, when I was working I completed about one painting a year. After retirement, I decided to study art more seriously and as I also have always had a love of nature and gardening so Botanical Art seemed the obvious next step.
Having practised my skills during lockdown, I applied for the prestigious Society of Botanical Art diploma in Botanical Art, which I graduated from in May 2023, with distinction. I was asked to provide two of my pieces of work for the Society’s exhibition at the Mall Galleries, which in addition to being an open exhibition was used to showcase some of the best of students work. Following my graduation, I have held a successful exhibition, completed one commission and planning another, run workshops at a local bookshop and had to turn down additional teaching as I need to concentrate on producing work for my application to become a permanent member of the Society of Botanical Artists (all graduates are given temporary membership for 18 months while they build up a further portfolio). I usually work in watercolour or graphite, although occasionally use Acrylic and have been known to dabble in oils and oil pastels. Whilst much of my work is done in the studio, I also love working in the sketchbook outside, compiling sketches, taking measurements, planning compositions and matching colours. I am currently working on a series of studies of significant trees in the village where I live. " Jackie Hibbert MA, Dip SBA (Dist) |
