Perin Towlson
Perin is a British trained ceramicist working as a studio potter and artist. 2007-2008 Art & Design foundation course at Leicester College. 2008 – 2011 DeMonfort University (DMU) BA in Design Crafts (Hons). In 2015 she was asked to design and make the porcelain boxes to hold the soil from where Richard III was born, raised and died for the re-interment at Leicester Cathedral. 3 boxes are held in Leicester Cathedral and 3 at Bosworth Heritage Centre. Inspired by the lines, shapes and textures of nature in particular coastlines, seashores and woodlands. Shells, barnacles, tree bark and fungus offer a unique story to her to interpret in different mediums. She uses photography to capture moments and revisit images to see what she has previously missed. From here pencil and ink drawings develop and allow her to express feelings in shape and sometimes watercolour or mixed media paintings. These expressions sometimes get translated into handmade porcelain vessels, highly polished and hand carved some further inspired by the use of volcanic glazes to experiment with colour and texture.
