Michael Haswell
Painter: Soft pastel, Oil pastel. Mixed media Favourite subjects: Figure, Landscapes, Coastal subjects, Still Life Michael’s interest in art began at the Leicester Colleges of Art and Technology where he completed a three-year course in shoe design. This involved classes in the history of costume, life drawing and sculpture. On completion he continued evening classes in life drawing and had the good fortune to meet Eric Dennis, Bryan Ward and Ann Walker who had all recently joined the Leicester Sketch Club. Michael joined them in a portrait-painting group that ran for many years and joined the Sketch Club in 1965 where at that time meetings were held in a basement room at the New Walk Museum. He became President in 1973 and a year later took on the post of Treasurer that he held until 2011. In the 80s Michael joined various classes at the University Studio where he resumed his interest in figurative sculpture that he now works on regularly in a small private group.
