Unfortunately all on-site workshops for the year have now been cancelled. PAINTING IN GOUACHE
Saturday 19th September 2020 10.00 am – 2.00 pm. Course led by LSC member Helen Newton Email: [email protected] View Helen’s work at: www.helennewtonartist.co.uk This course is for LSC members who would like to paint alongside other members and to gain experience in using the medium of gouache. The course is delivered through Zoom, with participants able to share their developing work through WhatsApp during the session, and with group and individual tutorials. Participants will be able to watch a YouTube demonstration which will be available prior to the course. Materials: Participants will need some gouache paints (an introductory set or a few colours will be sufficient), watercolour/thick paper or board to paint on and access to a computer or tablet with Zoom and a mobile phone for taking and sending images. Places are limited to 10. The cost is £25. Members can request a place by email to [email protected] by Saturday 12th September. GONGBI BRUSH PAINTING
Saturday 17th October 2020 10.00 am – 2.30 pm.
Tutor: Siyuan Ren
Gongbi is a realist style of classic Chinese painting with precise brushstrokes. Traditionally Gongbi paintings are created in ink and pigments on rice paper or silk. To create a good Gongbi painting, requires concentration, patience and a meditative mind.
In this workshop you will experience 2 major steps to create a Gongbi painting 1. brush line drawing and 2. layered colouring by studying elements from Gongbi masterpieces.
The course is delivered through Zoom. It will include an introduction to the technique, demos, hands-on-practice and one-to-one guidance. There is an opportunity to follow this day up with an 8 week course.
Materials: We will provide participants with 3 brushes, rice paper, oriental ink and Chinese pigments. You will also need a porcelain plate for mixing colours, bowl of water and some kitchen towels. More details will be sent out before the workshop.
