Vishal Joshi
Artist Statement My work is an exploration of identity. It questions society, labels and rules; humanity has a big influence on me. Painting is a vessel for my journey. I aim to remain experimental with ideas, mediums and techniques but I stand true to what engages me – mark making, chiaroscuro, perspective and a deep conceptual and philosophical vision. Website: About the Artist Born and raised in the heart of Leicester, where Vishal studied his A levels and Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at Gateway Sixth Form College, he was always passionate about Art and generally a creative thinker. He first developed an understanding of conceptualising his thoughts through Art whilst at secondary school. Vishal went on to study Fine Art: Painting at the very prestigious Wimbledon School of Art (University of Arts London). The surroundings of the big city life exposed Vishal to the world of commuters, modernisation and surveillance; he drew inspiration from these elements throughout his degree. After graduating he was offered a scholarship in China to study painting at MA level, but he had commitments at home with family so the opportunity was turned down. After 6 years of working full time he has given painting the chance to enter his life again. As yet, Vishal has exhibited in Leicester, Loughborough and in London and his creations have been sold internationally too. Vishal, recently won the Leicester Society of Artists prize at the 2017 LSC exhibition and he went on to claim the Viewer’s Choice award too.
